Key Concepts
Chromatography: A technique to separate pigments based on how far they travel in a solvent.
Rf Value: Distance travelled by pigment / Distance travelled by solvent. Unique for each pigment-solvent combination.
Solvent Front: The leading edge of the solvent moving up the paper.
Origin: The pencil line where samples are initially placed.
Pigments: Different colours separate because they have different affinities for the solvent.
